Training & Supervision
Because the success of any intervention program is based on its utility in the natural environment, FirstSteps places particular emphasis on parent involvement. Parent training is included as part of each intensive home-based program, but parent training may also be accessed as an independent service using a consultative model. Parent training generally includes training in ABA theory and practical application, including how to teach new skills and address problem behaviors. Recommended interventions and short-term goals are also given, with support and feedback for achieving each family’s goals.
Training in literacy, numeracy and functional computer skills
First steps intervention runs a series of sessions for children and adults who struggle with spelling, creative and productive writing, reading comprehension, numeracy skills and social communication. The sessions are aimed at boosting the individuals’ levels of performance and confidence in areas of a greater challenge.
Training Workshops
These workshops are meant to share new or merging skills in interventions. Topics range from early identification, interventions to specific educational topics. We target teachers, parents, therapists and caregivers in our training.
